CURRICULUM ENRICHMENT

Integrated, Emergent Curriculum

Language arts, Literacy awareness, Mathematical reasoning using sensory perceptions (patterns, spatial awareness, unit block construction, measuring, comparisons, etc.), Hands-on Science, Creative Arts, and Dance/Movement are all components of our emergent, experiential curriculum.

Creative Movement

Kechelle Jackson, our Creative Dance Instructor, has been working with young children for about six years. She was a classroom teacher for Hutch Kids Child Care Center from 2008-2013, where she also shared Creative Movement with their preschool classes. Graduating in 2011 with an Associates Degree in Early Childhood Development from North Seattle Community College, Kechelle is currently working towards her BA In Early Childhood Development & Business Administration. Kechelle attended the Creative Dance Center’s Summer Dance Institute for teachers in 2012. She has trained and worked along side Anne Green Gilbert for the last year. She also has been teaching classes at Hutch Kids and the greater Seattle area.

PreK Swim Program

Wednesdays:

  • 11:30 – 12:00 PreK

Currently cancelled due to the ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic. Our PreK class participates in a swim program during the school year (September through May). The class travels off-site to Meadowbrook Pool, adjacent to the Meadowbrook Community Center for weekly swim lessons.

Early Childhood Music Teacher, Chessie Snider, adores young children and is a former SPCDC Toddler Teacher. She uses a variety of instruments including child size hand instruments and her ukulele.  Classes incorporate songs, finger-play, song books, children’s interests, and body movement. Younger students will practice free expression and impulse control through music play. Older students will learn the concepts of scales, arpeggios, and rhythm patterns through play.
